Summary
Having just finished the fight with King Fury and rescued Kagu (see Memory 8), Kurow and Chibi meet up with Gen and Scholar just outside the Ruins. They take a moment to marvel at Daidarabotchi's ears that are now sticking hundreds of feet in the air, and when Scholar asks what it is, Kurow explains that Daidarabotchi was made on the moon, encased in a stone ark (which was what became the Ruins) and buried in the earth so that it wouldn't be used for evil when the moon's society fell. When Scholar asks how he knows so much about the moon, though, he simply replies that she'll have to wait for their date to learn that.
Gen then notices a dark shadow gathering by the Ruins, and Kurow and Chibi leave Kagu with Gen and Scholar before going to check it out. They find King Fury kneeling and weak, defeated but still possessed by the evil spirit. Chibi cuts the evil out of him with Power Slash, however, and Sugawara's spirit is purified.
Sugawara thanks Chibi for freeing his spirit from King Fury's demonic hold and giving him peace, and Kurow suggests that Chibi send him off to the afterlife in style, which he does - by blooming flowers around him. (My headcanon says they're plum blossoms because reasons.) With that, Sugawara's spirit can finally move on to his final resting place.
Before Sugawara leaves, though, Kurow shows him his moon pendant, confirming that the both of them are from the Moon Tribe. Sugawara says that he's glad to see one of his brothers before departing, and Kurow thinks the same. Sugawara brings up something that Kurow had said during their fight, that Kurow didn't have any friends, and asks if he feels alone. Kurow responds that yeah, kinda, but he's got Chibi. Sugawara says that he thinks Kurow will make many friends on his travels, and that he will no longer feel alone.
Sugawara's final words are "Friendship is the most important thing... even if those friends will let you down from time to time." And then his spirit departs for the afterlife in a radiant light.
What He Learns
☽ Whelp, the Moon Tribe's society apparently fell. Moar history!
☽ So many promises about that date... that date that hasn't happened...
☽ Power Slash can exorcise evil. Unsurprising.
☽ Another brush stroke of Chibi's! This one can make flowers appear out of thin air.
☽ ...So does Chibi count as a friend...?
☽ Sugawara was right. He's made a bunch of friends, and he doesn't feel alone. Though, he probably didn't see Teal coming.
☽ Friendship is the most important thing, even if they let you down sometimes.
Notes
Remind me to bring up that last line of Sugawara's after Kurow gets back his final sig neg. Because while he lacks the context to really get everything out of that line that he could, it's kind of important and does come up again (even if the game doesn't point it out).
Also, Sugawara is still awesome.
