Summary
Kurow watches from the rafters of an open cave as Chibi reunites a portly boy named Manpuku with his mother, who had just been freed from being kidnapped by demons. His mother is, however, so relieved to see that her son is all right that she collapses from exhaustion, having been carrying herself up until now on pure adrenaline. Manpuku starts bringing his mother home, but hesitates because he'd promised Chibi (who he calls Pork Chop) that he'd stick with him while he went to go find Orochi. Apparently, he'd already lost a dog named Maru before, so he doesn't want to lose Chibi too.
Kurow won't stand for this, though, and jumps down from the rafters, revealing himself and deciding it's time for Chibi to change partners. Manpuku doesn't want to, but Kurow explains that Manpuku's job is to save his mother, and when you've got a job to do, you can't lose sight of it. He also dejectedly pulls out his pendant and sighs at it, complaining about destiny and how you don't have a choice in the matter.
Manpuku asks Chibi's opinion on his predicament, saying that he wants to go with him, but he can't leave his mom behind. Chibi starts pushing him toward his mother, and Manpuku agrees to bring her home, but on the condition that Chibi should call him if he ever gets in a tight spot and needs his help.
After Manpuku leaves with his mother, Kurow comments to Chibi that he just needed some time to work through stuff, and that it's important to stop Akuro so he doesn't get what he wants. Amaterasu and the rest should be about to face Orochi, which is something they don't want to be late to, so Chibi and Kurow partner up once more.
What He Learns
☽ so he didn't come straight to Decollage after learning his destiny
☽ Manpuku was another one of Chibi's partners
☽ resolve is still an important thing - when you've got a job to do, you can't lose sight of it
☽ there's an unspoken implication here that there's still a chance that Akuro can be prevented from getting Orochi's blood... but considering that he is in Decollage, that... probably doesn't work out, does it, since if it wasn't just from learning that, it had to be a pretty desperate situation... This does not bode well.
Notes
No one's quite sure why Manpuku's mother was named Charity in the English version, but oh well, localizers will be localizers.
So this is a more depressing memory than I thought... I mean, it's not negative, per se, but Kurow is still obviously reeling from learning his destiny in it. Yet another reminder of what he is and what he was created to do.
